How I'm going to utilise my English period on Monday 25th February 2019

My English is not at school. So she has given us homeworks to do. After finishing the homework, I planned to read the novel dear Mr Kilmer  because my English teacher said she is going to ask us the synopsis of the novel when she comes back. Actually the novel is very interesting to me. It is about a boy who is interested in writing poetry. He is brave and his father is a farmer. He is only fifteen years old. His mom died when he was young. He has a distant relationship with his father. He did not tell his father about his love for poetry and so on. Other than that, I also do revision for our first exam because our exam is just around the corner and I'm not going to relax. These are how I utilise my English period on that day.

What I learned from my classmates and my ULBS presentation

Ulbs is an oral test in our school. Everyone has to take the exam. It is compulsory. My English teacher has set a topic for our ulbs. This time, we have to work in pairs. Sim and I are partner. Our topic is write a character that you look up to in the novel dear Mr Kilmer. So our teacher will ramdomly choose a pair to start presenting their oral test. Teacher has taught us the techniques for answering the questions. So that we weren't mess up during exam. First we have to read the question before answering it. In order to get higher marks for that section in exam, we have to give sufficient evidence for each point. Besides our conclusion has to be interesting and long. So that we can get high marks. The total marks for that section is 15 marks. My classmates and I have made a few mistakes during their oral test. My teacher has pointed out a few mistakes that we have made. She asked us not to make the same mistake in the exam. For example, we gave insufficient evidences and short conclusion during our oral test. Apart from that we have to read the question before doing it because some questions emphasis us. For instance, there is a question came out in spm the question emphasis students to write how the main character has changed the family members. So students will only have to write family members not friends.

Write about your feelings on the blog and whether it has benefitted you thus far

Actually writing blogs are very important to everyone especially me,because I'm a person who are not good in English. At first, I hated to write blogs because I think is just a waste of time. But then writing blogs have actually improved my writing skills. Every week my English teacher will ask us to write a blog. So basically we write an essay every week. She wants us to improve our writing skills. When we were doing our blogs, we may have to think about ideas for the topic. We have to exercise our brain so that our brain won't become rusty. Besides, writing blogs is just like a preparation for us. It is a preparation for us before having our exams. So that we would not mess up our essays. Our teacher will give us free topic sometime. I like free topic because I can just write whatever I want to. It is like a freedom to me. Free is the best part in our life. In conclusion, there are many benefits of doing blogs. They can help us to improve our writing skills and improve our oral skills as well.

The importance of listening

According to Oxford Living Dictionaries, to listen is to give attention to sound or action. When listening, one is hearing what others are saying, and trying to understand what it means. The act of listening involves complex affective, cognitive, and behavioral processes. Affective processes include the motivation to listen to others; cognitive processes include attending to, understanding, receiving, and interpreting content and relational messages

Good listening skills make workers more productive. The ability to listen carefully allows workers to better understand assignments they are given. They are able to understand what is expected of them by their management.

The ability to listen and to comprehend also allows workers to build a strong rapport with coworkers, managers, and clients. Employers and managers have confidence in workers that can listen to instructions and then do what is expected with minimal follow-up. Good listeners also have a better track record resolving problems with customers.

When you focus on the material presented in a classroom, you will be able to identify not only the words used in a lecture but their emphasis and their more complex meanings. You will take better notes, and you will more accurately remember the instructor’s claims, information, and conclusions. Many times, instructors give verbal cues about what information is important, specific expectations about assignments, and even what material is likely to be on an exam, so careful listening can be beneficial

In conclusion  listening is very important in our daily life

Free topic-life

Life is beautiful and yet life is not a bed of roses. Though it is full of ups and downs it has many facets of blessings and successes.

To some people, life is hard, cruel and merciless. These set of people see life as punishment throughout their entire lives. They therefore resigned themselves to fate, believing all is finished. To them, nothing that they do can ever be good. They take delight in committing crimes and maiming others to avenge their ill-fortune. They lost every sense of direction and most times, some of them go as far as committing suicide, just to escape the injustice life has meted out to them.

Life is a challenge. And for anyone to succeed in life, he must be ready to show the stuff he is made of. He must be ready to sacrifice his time and build up his mind frame toward success. What is happening in our environment should not influence or affect us in our daily quest for success in life. Instead, we should control the happenings around us.

Life is so easy, yet many people rush and miss what they want to achieve in life. Don’t rush in life. Take one step at a time. Each step should be properly planned before being launched. Steady, balance, mark and shoot. And before you know it, the sky will become the beginning of your success.

Events that make me angry in novel dear Mr klimer

The novel that I studied was ‘Dear Mr Kilmer’ by Anne Schraff. An event that made me angry was when the Schermers’ tavern was vandalised. I was angry because of two reasons.

In the novel, 'dear Mr klimer' , event that makes me angry is when hannah is bullied and ostracised in school due to racial prejudice. She is called a 'dirty hun' and her parents' tavern is vandalised by the townspeople. This makes me angry because although her parents come from Germany  I feel that hannah is an American. She is born in America and her parents have made America their home for a long time. In fact, even her brother is serving in the US army.

Secondly, I was angry because Richard’s classmates were being unkind to the Schermers after the Schermers’s tavern was vandalisedMrs Hansen brought a card to express regret for what had happenedMrs Hansen asked her class to sign the card. The troublemakers like Abner, Harry, Blanche and Peggy refused to sign the card. They warned other classmates not to sign the card. The boys were afraid Abner and Harry would hit them. The girls worry that popular girls like Peggy and Blanche would not speak to them. However, Richard was the only student who signed the sympathy card for Hannah Schermer. After school, Richard took the card from Mrs Hansen. He wanted to give the card to Hannah. Hannah accepted the card reluctantly. Later, Hannah apologised to Richard for being rude. This was the beginning of their friendship.

In conclusion, the event where the Schermers was being mistreated infuriated me. I truly believed that discrimination was unjust.
